Artist Mary Lou John’s statement:
Mary Lou Johns is a full-time resident of Breckenridge, Colorado where she has been a member of Women of Watercolor for over 15 years. Her watercolors are inspired by the majestic scenery of Summit County. Her paintings have been displayed at the Speakeasy Theatre, the Breckenridge Theatre Gallery, the Old Masonic Hall, the Summit County Garden Club Tour, and at “Meet the Artists.” Recent honors include being selected for the “Silverthorne Art Wall”, a commission to paint the poster for the Summit County Garden Tour, and a painting for the “Art on the Blue River” Art Fair.
In recent years, Johns has added oil painting to her repertoire. She loves the ability to express loosely and emphasize brush strokes in this medium. “Actually, each type of painting informs the other. “What I learn in oils can often be applied to watercolors and vice versa.”
Mary Lou has served as president of “Women of Watercolor” (WOW), helping others to learn and enjoy this challenging medium. To see her gallery and to learn more about WOW, go to www.WomenOfWatercolor.com
