Hudson Ranch is a nearly 1,600-acre property across two parcels southwest of Pueblo near Beulah, an area which is facing rapid growth and development. The property consists of piñon-juniper woodlands, open grasslands, and steep canyons, and is adjacent to other conserved land, providing great wildlife habitat and scenic beauty. The ranch is owned and operated by the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union and the Pueblo County 4-H Foundation for the purposes of agricultural education and other community uses. Because of the landowners’ decision to partner with Colorado Open Lands, the land will remain open in perpetuity.
Just off the protected property boundary, on another portion of the ranch, amenities including a cowboy church, an outdoor arena, shooting ranges, and a model rocket launch site are used as a beloved gathering place for locals and visitors alike. The protection of this property fulfills the wishes of John and Helen Hudson, who donated the land to the two nonprofits for use in agriculture and education, and this easement will ensure the value and use of the property for the community.
